Bailey turns two!

One of the best parts of photographing children is watching them grow and develop a personality of their own. The Beldens brought Bailey in for her first session when she was under a week old. Now she’s a sometimes sweet, sometimes sassy two-year old who had us all awwwwing and laughing during the photo session.

For most of our session Bailey acted like a little angel, right up until her parents suggested she show me her sassy side.

Madalyn

This is another recent newborn session where the black and whites (and sepia tones) really stood out to me. I photographed Baby Madalyn when she was just a few days old. Here, she’s being held by her father.

I liked this next series of her cuddled up in a blanket.

Henry

Baby Henry’s parents came to me on a recommendation from another client of mine, who gave them a gift certificate for a sitting fee. I went to his parents’ home within days after his birth. I loved this photo of him sound asleep on the floor in their hallway.

I loved the light in this one, and the contrast of the yellow blanket with Henry’s skin.

I love catching a newborn’s eyes open.

Old Louisville Ghost Walk

This year on Halloween I photographed a ghost tour in Old Louisville. Although Old Louisville offers these tours year round, the neighborhood ratchets up the action on Halloween week by hosting a three-night spectacle of community theater known as the Victorian Ghost Walk. Written by David Dominé and directed by veteran New York actor Ronald Lew Harris, the Victorian Ghost Walk showcases the spooky history of America’s most haunted neighborhood. It also offers onlookers  a chance to listen to costumed storytellers recount ghostly tales from the past. The following are a few of my images from that night.

If you haven’t done the Victorian Ghost Tour before, I highly recommend that you try it out next year. The tours start at Central Park and typically cost between $20 and $25. For more information, check out www.oldlouisville.org/ghostwalk.

“A Feast for the Eyes” On sale now!

Sunday marked the launch of a book I photographed for the Old Louisville Chamber of Commerce – A Feast For The Eyes: Recipes from America’s Grandest Victorian Neighborhood. The book, authored by David Dominé, offers not just a taste of what you’ll find on the dinner table in Old Louisville, it also provides a glimpse of the interior design and architecture that make this such a special place today.

On Sunday, September 26, the book committee hosted a private preview party and signing for the owners of the 31 Victorian Mansions and Bed & Breakfasts featured in the book. This week sales go public and you can find copies in local book stores and gift shops throughout Old Louisville and Kentucky including:

Ellie

One-year-old Ellie has grown a lot in the six months since her last shoot, but she still has those gorgeous blue eyes! I think they’re here to stay.

In this shoot, we kept her entertained with bubbles

… and cupcakes! I love this series of her scarfing up her one-year-old birthday cupcake.

Elijah – Newborn photos

I photographed Baby Elijah just days after he was born. I often use a black backdrop with babies, but Elijah’s mom wanted his newborn pics to match those of her other children, so I did some in both black and white.  The change was fun.

Sweet family.

Rare to catch newborn eyes so wide open.

I really liked this symbolic “pea” hat.

During Elijah’s feeding time, I was able to snap a few photos of his big brother and big sister.

They loved hamming it up for the camera.

Eventually, a sleepy Elijah rejoined us so we could get a picture of the siblings with their new baby brother.
